FAQ
The things to know before you go.
Weather
Mexico City weather is mild and pleasant year round. High of 79° to low of 48° for the month of March. Check the weather when packing to see if it might rain. It’s a walking city, so bring comfortable shoes. You can bring clothes for dinner, but don’t need anything fancy.
Language
Sales people in shops may speak English, but many people you’ll interact with (drivers, servers, etc.) will only speak Spanish.
Water
Don’t drink the tap water because it will make you sick. Brush your teeth with bottled water, and order bottled water at restaurants.
Currency & Tipping
The conversion rate changes, but is typically around 1 Peso to .05 USD, so 100 pesos is about $5 USD. As a general rule tip a minimum 10% to servers anywhere they bring the bill to your table.
Altitude
CDMX elevation is 7380 feet, thats 2,000+ feet higher than Denver. Drink LOTS of bottled water to avoid altitude sickness. Also note that the effects of alcohol can also be magnified at elevation.
Taxis
Don’t take taxis. Uber is remarkably cheap, safe, easy and plentiful. Taxis may charge you extra for being a tourist. Stick to Uber.
